My name is David Swan and on this site you will find images of main line steam tours from Fleet and the surrounding area,
taken since 2001. Also, from 2005 many photographs are accompanied by sound recordings. I have included the occasional
visit to some preserved railways. Some locomotives have a brief history on the
locomotive histories page. Check out the
main index for full details, or try the
quick links below. If you found this page whilst looking for local information try
here or
here. If you need regular main line train services go to
South West Trains. If you are just trying to find Fleet Station or how much it costs to use the car park try
here.
Most of the Steam Trains passing through Fleet are Cathedrals Express tours run by
Steam Dreams using a variety of locomotives with recently overhauled 34046
Braunton, newly built 60163
Tornado
and 6201
Princess Elizabeth all due to run in 2012, although not necessarily through Fleet
. There
are occasional other tours, notably run by
The Railway Touring Co. and
VSOE (Venice Simplon Orient Express). The VSOE tours had been headed by
Flying Scotsman for some time.
With the sale of this locomotive to the National Railway Museum in York and currently under overhaul, No. 4472 may return
to main line working in 2012, hopefully on the old London and South Western Railway lines. VSOE are using 35028
Clan Line for their tours at the present time. The nearest standard gauge heritage steam railway is the
Watercress Line or
Mid-Hants Railway which runs regular services throughout most of the year. The Watercress Line runs between Alton and Alresford.
Alton Station can be reached on the main line from London Waterloo and links directly with the Watercress Line.
