34067 Tangmere heads for Basingstoke and Southampton E Docks, on this VSOE tour from London
Victoria, shortly after departing Winchfield following a water stop. The return trip was routed via Fareham, Hove and Three
Bridges due to track problems in the London area.

Three views here from the 'Southern Phoenix' tour to commemorate the final steam hauled passenger
service on the old Southern region on 09 July 1967. The first leg of the tour ran from London Victoria to Guildford.
The first view here is from that leg of the trip. The sound of 34067 Tangmere resonates around the North Downs
as the loco threads its way through the hills between Dorking and Gomshall. At the top of the Downs is the slender spire
of Ranmore Church.
Listen to Tangmere attacking the 1 in 96 climb on the Sound 2007 page
here.
Next, after being diesel hauled from Guildford to Alton and then to Woking, the tour continued to
London Waterloo. With 34067 at the head the tour ran a loop from Woking via Basingstoke and Eastleigh before heading
for London. We catch Tangmere in fine form crossing the Pond at Fleet.
Finally, the tour ran back across the Downs and we see 34067 climbing out of Liss towards Liphook.
Catch some of climb as the loco passes on the Sound 2007 page here.

21 July 2007
Running nearly an hour late 34067 Tangmere heads up the grade towards Overton at Whitchurch.
Extensive flooding in the south of England meant this trip was in some doubt, 34067 was even reported grazing a bridge near
Sherborne. This eventful trip was a 'Cathedrals Express' from Minehead on the West Somerset Railway to London Victoria.
The tour would return with a diesel at the head.

21 July 2007
34067 Tangmere catches some late evening sun as it storms away from Theale, more than 10
minutes ahead of its booked time following a water stop. 34067 was returning to London Victoria following a trip to
Bristol with this VSOE tour. Tangmere only travelled as far as Westbury before being turned with the trip continuing
diesel hauled. This could be the last VSOE working for a while for 34067 with 35028 now the main locomotive and
850 being used as back up.
Tangmere sounds good on this departure and you can listen on the Sound 2007 page here.

34067 Tangmere heads for home with the 'Atlantic Coast Express'. 34067 is depicted
just east of Whitchurch heading for Basingstoke and London Waterloo, following this trip to Exeter.

29 September 2007
34067 Tangmere heads west along the Great Western Main Line at Purley with this Cathedrals
Express tour from London Victoria to Gloucester and return. Tangmere is running on the 'fast' line some
15 minutes down but must have caused a slight delay to any following 125mph HST's. The return trip was delayed
by over 2 hours.

20 December 2007
Just about a mile east of where we started the year with 34067 Tangmere in January at Potbridge
we catch a final view of the year at Winchfield. 34067 heads this 'Cathedrals Express' tour from London Waterloo
to Sherborne and return in this icy but well lit scene. Running about 15 minutes down here the return was delayed about
the same amount. Piling through Winchfield in the dark on the 'up fast', whistling with sparks flying out in the exhaust
was a fitting end to the year.

6024 King Edward I heads west near Shrivenham with this Vintage Trains tour from Solihull to
Tyseley via Didcot.
Arriving at Swindon shortly after passing Shrivenham it was found the 'King' had developed a hot
axlebox on the tender. Fantastic work by the support crew enabled the bearing to be changed in a siding at Swindon.
The loco then rejoined its train and continued its journey incredibly only ninety minutes down. A tremendous performance
by all involved and a credit to the whole preservation movement.

17 March 2007
6024 King Edward I climbs past Crofton with 'The Yeovil Betrothal'. 6024 is hauling a special
water carrier wagon behind the tender to reduce the need for water stops. Is is intended this will be covered over in
the future to resemble coaching stock. The tour ran from London Paddington to Yeovil Junction then returned to London
with a wedding party.
6024 is making easy work of this climb in this rather 'soft' view (again!).

26 May 2007
A trip to Wales enabled me to catch 71000 Duke of Gloucester at the head of 'The Southern
Irishman'. We see 71000 heading across open country towards Carmarthen near Bancyfelin on the return leg of the tour.
71000 was returning to Newport following a trip to Fishguard Harbour.
Listen to 71000 heading past and in fine form on the Sound 2007 page here.

A rare visit to a preserved line for us sees Vale of Rheidol no 8 Llywelyn hard at
work as it makes for the summit of this 11 mile climb from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge in central Wales.
Just 30 seconds of on-board action from climb on Sound 2007 here.

28 October 2007
Following its recent overhaul 30777 Sir Lamiel made a return to main line duties with this
'Cathedrals Express' tour from Clapham Junction to Exeter and return. Drama on the return leg saw the support crew having
to hand sand to locomotive to restart 30777 having come to halt on Honiton Bank. The damp conditions are evident on
this view from Brookwood on the outward leg.

11 December 2007
30777 Sir Lamiel heads west near Pirbright with this Cathedrals Express tour from London
Waterloo to Salisbury and return. 30777 has just passed under Pirbright Junction flyover taking the line to Aldershot
and Alton.
The second view here is on the return leg during a water stop at Basingstoke. As the loco is
serviced an 'up' freight speeds by.

In fine autumn sunlight, 60009 Union of South Africa tears up the climb towards Savernake at Crofton
with this Cathedrals Express tour. 60009 was heading to Bristol before returning to London Victoria.

15 December 2007
Running in place of failed 35028 Clan Line, 60009 Union of South Africa hauled this
VSOE circular tour from London Victoria. In the first view we see 60009 coming off the Addlestone line at Byfleet.
Next, I was delayed getting to Shere to catch up with the tour so not a great view climbing towards Gomshall. 60009
is in real trouble here though having already slipped several times nearing the top of the climb, 60009 is about to stop just
short of the summit. Several minutes pass before the train is restarted by the Class 67 on the rear.
